Maybelline has been in inception for a handful of years now. I always knew I wanted to do a flashy cantering Saddlebred sister-piece to Covergirl, but she was just something I thought of once and a while. Then I saw a photo Maggie Jenner-Bennett shared and was struck - it was the piece in my head! I immediately contacted her to strike a deal for the sculpture rights. This sculpture oozes everything I wanted - elegance, vitality, and femininity. She beautifully matches the elevated art piece that Covergirl was.
After the success with magnets on the Stetson mold, I was ready to be a little more ambitious with my piecing. This sculpture's tail is actually a separate piece, which makes it much easier for transportation as well as shelf storage. The tail is pretty secure even without a magnet, but there's one inside it and a corresponding one inside the cavity of the horse to pair up with for extra security. When primed and painted, that tail fits on VERY tightly (good thing). Enough that the friction of pushing in and pulling out will probably scratch paint work off in that area. No biggie since it's invisible, but it's good to disclose. There is very little gap between the tail and the body of the horse, and the way the tail is folding over really sells the illusion of everything being one piece. The base is removable, and slimmed down from my usual rectangular plinth style, making it more shelf-space friendly for this very long, spread out lady. Her pegs are hoof-shaped so she can only be put into her base one way and you can easily see which way that is. She slides in divinely and is very secure.
This sculpture has three scales planned for: a traditional, which will be released March, 2025, a venti, which will follow after the traditional run is closed and fulfilled, and a micro run that has come and gone. The micro run, a 3D print produced in house, was kept very small due to the difficulty in printing and the extra work required to ship with confidence. It's larger in size to help make those thin little legs more durable and stands at about 2" tall with base. The traditional piece is solid-cast and produced in-house. She measures nearly 10" high while on her base x 11 3/4" long without the tail or 15 3/4" long with the tail. Her base is approx 13" long.
